When I was recording the wind chimes sound I attached my microphones to the fence of the yard I was recording at. The home owner was driving by and saw me standing just outside his yard. He pulled over and started yelling at me but I didn't hear him because of the head phones. He eventually got out of the car and walked over and tapped me on the shoulders and at this point was irate. I simply said I was recording sound of the wind chimes and the wood pecker (which sadly he just scared away in all his yelling) but he didn't care. It was very upsetting to see people so afraid the world is out to get them that they'll ignore all reason.
After this incident I was much more mindful of how close I would get to private property. It really make things difficult to take images of doors of houses when I would force myself to keep a good distance away and not linger in front of any home for too long of a period of time. Even staying on the sidewalk when taking images I would still get the occasional odd look from a home owner or person walking by.
